NIDDK Webinar: Bioinformatic Exploration of Hematology Cohort Data Webinar

Unique discovery opportunities lie at the center of well-characterized cohorts. As patient donors make their gift in becoming part of a disease registry or cohort, the scientific community must ensure a return on their investment by uncovering new treatment targets associated with modifiable disease pathways. This workshop is aimed to develop new partnerships between data science investigators and investigators curating clinical cohorts. The purpose of this workshop is to discuss state of the art tools for identification of disease pathways, particularly in non-malignant hematologic diseases, and to identify the limitations inherent in existing tools. We expect the development of new tools for genotype-phenotype analyses and disease pathway prediction, especially in rare disease cohorts, will provide unique insights into a range of inherited and acquired underlying diseases including the hemoglobinopathies, porphyrias, hereditary iron disorders and bone marrow failure disorders.
Registration Deadline: September 20, 2020.

MMPC Funding Opportunity Application Due Date: MMPC MICROMouse Program

The MMPC MICROMouse Program is a competitive grants program awarding up to $75,000 (total costs) for one year to fund research projects that have the potential to enhance and advance the mission of the MMPC as a resource for scientists using mice to study diabetes and obesity. Any independent investigator, including post-doctoral fellows, is eligible to apply. A project must be either: 1) resource-development (e.g., develop, improve, miniaturize, teach, distribute, etc. phenotyping tests for use in mice); or 2) resource-related research (e.g., a new, currently unfunded project where results have potential impact for mouse centered research in diabetes or obesity, particularly those focused on broad biological questions that impact the ability of the MMPC to meet its goals). MICROMouse Program funds are not intended to replace or reduce the fees charged for services requested from an MMPC.

NIDDK Funding Opportunity Letter of Intent Due Date: NIDDK Centers for Diabetes Translation Research (P30 Clinical Trial Optional)

This Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) invites applications that propose a Center for Diabetes Translation Research (CDTR) to advance research along the spectrum of diabetes T2-T4 translational research (i.e., bedside to clinical practice and community settings, dissemination and implementation). The purpose of this Centers program is to accelerate innovation of diabetes translation to maximize positive impacts of research on population health through activities and core services that offer specialized expertise, tools, education, and support. An emphasis on novel methods and research to address health equity and reduce diabetes-related health disparities is encouraged. Novel research cores designed to improve other aspects of person-centered, community, and population health are also encouraged with justification for how such strategies may be adapted to meaningfully inform disparity-reduction approaches. A scientific base reflecting academic institutions and diverse organizational collaborators (e.g., healthcare systems, community organizations, health departments, human services) is expected to foster a Center framework necessary for improving population health. CDTRs are based on the core concept whereby shared resources aimed at fostering productivity, synergy, and novel research ideas among the funded investigators are supported in a cost-effective manner.
