Blockages can be detected by the failure of the FCM to successfully plot data in the scatter plot even though the machine is in the ‘acquire sample’ step. This will be visualized on the scatter plot as either extreme alterations to the forward and side scatter plot (a Etch A Sketch like drawing) or a complete absence of cell populations that should be there otherwise.
