Summary: Interleukins (IL) are a type of cytokine first thought to be expressed by leukocytes alone but have later been found to be produced by many other body cells. They play essential roles in the activation and differentiation of immune cells, as well as proliferation, maturation, migration, and adhesion. They also have pro-inflammatory and anti-inflammatory properties. The primary function of interleukins is, therefore, to modulate growth, differentiation, and activation during inflammatory and immune responses. Interleukins consist of a large group of proteins that can elicit many reactions in cells and tissues by binding to high-affinity receptors in cell surfaces. Eosinophils and CD8+T cells synthesize IL-16. Its principal target is CD4+ T cells. It causes CD4+ T cell chemoattraction. [1]Reference1. Justiz Vaillant AA, Qurie A. Interleukin. In:StatPearls. Summary: Peroxidase-labeled anti-IgY conjugated to proteins L, A and G (SpLAG-anti-IgY-HRP) is a new development in the field of biochemistry. This versatile protein binds to more 700 species of animal IgGs including birds, laboratory animals, farm animals, wild animals, pets, and many others. This conjugate can be used in the study of zoonosis and the assessment of the antibody production for the study of the animal immune system. This immunomarker is not available in a recombinant form as their counterpart SpLA-HRP, SpLG-HRP and SpAG-HRP. It can be used in ELISA, immunohistochemistry, Western blot analysis, Dot blot, and RIA [1-4]. References1. Justiz-Vaillant AA, Akpaka PE, McFarlane-Anderson N, Smikle MF. Summary: Keyhole limpet hemocyanin (KLH) is a cooper-containing protein comprising of subunits with MW of 400 kDa. This protein is found in the hemolymph of the sea mollusk Megathura crenulata. It has the ability to enhance the host’s immune response by interacting with monocytes, T cells and macrophages. KLH has been used primarily as a carrier for vaccines and antigens [1]. It was found that chicken immunized with KLH bound peptide raised an anti-KLH immunoresponse [2]. This can be tested by a single method such as the Ouchterlony technique.Reference1. It is a pro-inflammatory molecule and upregulates type-2 interferon synthesis by natural killer cells. [1]Reference1. Justiz Vaillant AA, Qurie A. Interleukin. In:StatPearls. Different cells in both innate and acquired immunities produce IL-22, but the primary sources are T cells. Th22 cell is a new line of CD4+ T cells, which differentiated from naive T cells in the presence of various pro-inflammatory cytokines including IL-6. IL-22 inhibits IL-4 production. It also has essential functions in mucosal surface protection and tissue repairy. [1]Reference1. Justiz Vaillant AA, Qurie A. Interleukin. In:StatPearls.
